Craven Heart

Craven Heart

My craven heart

pushed my courage out

to make room

for things that didn’t matter

“You haven’t any valor!”

My heart shouted at me

“I’m sorry,” I muttered

Then I remembered,

If I start believing

in my own bravery,

then there won’t be

anymore room

for things that don’t matter

inside of me.

***************************************************************

Hey everyone!

Sorry I have been off here for the past few days! I will catch up with everyone’s posts/writings this week.

I was working towards earning a medal! 2 out of 5 earned so far this year! (If you would have told me a year ago that I would have ran a half marathon, I would have told you that you were crazy. I have never felt athletic and have loathed working out…) And yet, here I am…this was my second half marathon and I am starting training (TODAY!!) for a sprint triathlon in August! Oh, I can’t swim. So that will be fun to write about. *Hopefully, I won’t drown in the process. *

I have learned so much about myself and how I speak to myself through running.

Do you ever say things you wish you didn’t to yourself?

Do you ever tell yourself hurtful things to get you where you want to be?

I used to tell myself some unkind things. Words I would never say to another human being.

And yet, I said them all to myself.

It only made me dislike myself more.

I saw how detrimental that was when it not only affected my self-esteem, but also I realized…I treated others better than I treated myself.

I started to replace those cruel words with positivity and kindness towards myself.

I am still learning and working towards being the person I want to be.

In the meantime, hang on…I’ve got lots more to say…and a couple more medals to earn along the way.

Hope your Monday is full of making room for things that matter!

  1. I always rejoice when someone wants to express their strengths in this way. Well done. Congratulations on your achievements at running, you have every reason to be very proud of yourself. Have you started trying to run to see how best a time you get, or are you like me when I did cross-country running at school – when getting to the finishing line was a relief. Nicely spoken and I am so glad you had a productive wekend 🙂

    1. I was working towards bettering my time but it stressed me out so much. I love to run when I can do it at my pace. I’d like to be at a consistent 9 minute mile…so that is the ultimate goal.
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement! 😊💗

  2. Oh look at you! You’re shining 😁😊😊😊 Congratulations!! Great achievement 👏👏👏 and good luck for August as well! 😁
You ended the post with an explanation for the poem which is beautiful as usually by the way and so glad you decided to confront these bad words and replace them with motivational and encouraging words! I love a saying in French “Quand on veut on peut” = when we want, we can! So simple and your limit is the sky!
What we say to ourselves can destruct or build, it’s so powerful so choose wisely and treat yourself better than you’re treating others! way better!
Have a great week ahead, so happy to read this lovely news 😊🤗💕💕💖
